Does anyone know of what happened to Charlie Beers. I don't see his name in the members list. I can still remember that tall guy hunching over to get the canopy closed on his airplane.

Someone needs to make a minor correction to Colonel Ascani's T-33 Story. He states that the incident occured 1951-1952. Not so! The 50th FBW did not deploy to Toul-Rosiers until the summer of 1956. I was in the advance party at Toul doing construction work the summer of 1956 in preparation for the wing's arrival from Hahn.

Great site. I served in the 50th, 1956 - 1959 as an enlisted aircraft armament specialist. The site does seem more officer slanted, I don't see much that says anything about all of the outstanding enlisted people who served in the the unit. When will you be posting more info on the next reunion? Is the reunion mostly attended by officers?

I would like to include the name of First Lieutenant Louis Thomas Esposito, in the 50th FBW Guestbook.

Louie was born in Vineland, N.J. on 13 December 1924. He was Killed-In-Action, in Korea, on 22 October 1951.

Louie was the pilot of an F-80C, Shooting Star, Fighter Interceptor, with the 35th FBS, 8th FBG.

On 22 October 1951, while on a Combat Mission, his aircraft received a direct hit, by anti-aircraft fire, exploded in mid-air and crashed near Koma-dong and Hoechang, North Korea.

For his Leadership and Valor, First Lieutenant Esposito, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross; the Air Medal; the Purple Heart; the Korean Service Medal; the United Nations Service Medal; the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.

Major Bean, was the Squadron CC, at the time, and - I was a Flight Commander and flew that same mission with Louie. He was a Very Fine Officer and Fighter Pilot and was missed by us all!

I retired after 23 years, staying in fighters. The 50th fbw/81stfbs was a great step for my military career.

I did follow the careers of as many as possible.

We had the greatest wing and personnel in the air force.

It`s such a great pleasure in finding this site, thanks to Pridemore and Poncho.

Time I visit here. Sorry that I have not made a reunion. That doesn't mean that the 50th is ever out of my mind. With Pancho reminding me of recent events, I am pretty much in contact with the Hahn Air Base and Toul-Rosieres periods. I see that you need some stories to include in this site. I have a couple I would like to submit as long as the persons involved may remain incognito. What is the best way to submit them? Check Six!

Dear Jack and Lucy,

A really interesting site, well done. We really miss Utah and especially yourselves and your family, you must be very proud of them. They have been a great support in times of need, surely as a result of their upbringing!. The “flying thing” must be in the family’s blood, with Jack Jnr. climbing to the dizzy heights of ATP. One day I will be back to complete my PPL with him!. Take good care of yourselves and hopefully one day we can once again share a glass of Chivas around the fire in your back yard. Our very best wishes for Christmas and the New Year. Peter.
